How does a tube coil dryer work - working principle

A continuous tube coil dryer is designed to dry non-sticky material. Similar to a disc dryer, saturated steam is used. It consists of a rotor and stator. Continuous-coil dryer is operating in the pressure range from 7 to 10barG and temperatures from 170 °C to 184 °C. Heating tubes are mounted on the rotor. Heat is transferred indirectly by saturated steam, which flows to heating coils. Paddles welded to each section are responsible for mixing and for pushing the material to the discharge end of a continuous dryer. Contaminated vapor is discharged by vapor dome to the exhaust gases treatment system. If the steam jacket is welded to the stator, an air vent has to be mounted.

Characteristics of a thermal-dryer

A tube coil dryer is perfect for continuous drying of raw material with low-fat content. For instance: blood, feathers, and fish meal. It is ideal for use in the production of high-quality and high-protein meals. Oil has to be removed by pressing before the drying process. The thermal dryer can heat by the shell and by the rotor, improving the thermal efficiency of the machine. According to the different properties of the dried material, the machine can be made of carbon or stainless steel. This type of dryer is lighter compared to a standard disc dryer. The large surface area of the industrial dryer affects effectively the evaporation process of water vapor. A variable speed drive unit can be mounted at the discharge end. The capacity of a dryer depends on water content and heat transfer of dried material. Dryers undergo detailed quality control and can be designed to the following  PED, ASME, DNV, TUV, Lloyd's, and Bureau Veritas standards.

Types of animal meals that can be produced by thermal-dryer

  • Poultry and cattle blood meal
  • Hydrolyzed feather meal
  • Fish meal
