How does a meal cooler work - working principle

The meal cooler for cooling raw material is using ambient air at an approximate temperature of 20-25 °C. It consists of a rotor and a housing stator. Specially designed paddles are welded perpendicularly to the rotor, which is responsible for continuous mixing and moving cooled products along the machine. A hot meal at a temperature of approximately 110 °C is moved from the inlet to the outlet of the cooler, while in the opposite direction, cooler air is sucked by a centrifugal fan. During the cooling process, meal dust will appear, that is why a cyclone or bag filter separator is mounted for removing the dust contained in the cooling air. The meal cooler rotor is mounted on a special robust bearing on both sides, and it is rotated by a gear motor.

Characteristics of an industrial meal cooler

The meal cooler is a very important machine for the meat rendering industry. It is applicable for cooling fish meal, feather meal, meat in dry and wet rendering plants. The meal cooler is often placed after drying, grinding, and pressing equipment like disc dryers or screw presses. There are a few factors sayings why it is necessary to have this machine in the rendering plant. The most significant is to cool down the meal before storage in tanks or bags because condensation can appear and can ruin the quality of the meal. Each customer knows that if better quality of the meal we have, then better sell price can be achieved. The meal cooler can cool down different types of the meal like fish, feathers, poultry, meat, and blood meal. The next crucial issue is to keep the meal temperature below 50 °C. Hot meal in combination with exact moisture and fat level has a tendency to self-ignition and therefore meal cooler is extremely important to avoid a fire. The last critical factor for the meal cooler is concerning the milling of the hot meal. Cooled product if having a temperature above 50 °C is sticky and difficult to mill. If the temperature is below 50 °C, then the meal contains less sticky liquid and is more solid. By having the meal cooler in the meat or fish rendering plant, the lifetime of wear and tear parts of the hammer mill are extended. TG-Machines meal coolers are designed to keep the costs of installation as low as possible. Energy efficiency motors and fans are used. We can deliver carbon or stainless steel meal coolers tailor-made to the customer's requirements.
